Director’s Statement
I came to the set of Groped without a script. It was shot in Milwaukee, WI in a single day. In the morning I had a discussion with the cast about workplace sexual harassment and unfortunately we all had a story to tell. We engaged in a couple of hours of improv using our personal experiences for inspiration. At lunch I wrote a 5 page script based on the improv and then we shot for the rest of the day wrapping at 9 pm. The experience of making this film – our process sourced in personal truths and trauma – was rewarding beyond belief. Given the repeated revelations about workplace sexual harassment in employment environments ranging from government to entertainment, I feel that Groped constitutes a timely and important interrogation of this scourge and its pernicious effects in the lives of people who just want to feel safe at work.
